Place a spot of composite on the adjacent tooth and polymerize to match shades for direct buildups

Matching a single anterior tooth shade is one of the most difficult tasks in aesthetic dentistry. It is very smart but simple idea to place a small blob of the composite shade that will be used on an adjacent tooth and polymerize it without applying any etchant or bonding agent.

This will help in identifying a very close shade and at the same time it can be easily flicked off without any deleterious effect on the adjacent tooth. This can be tried with multiple shades till an exact color match is obtained.
