Description
The hypothesis is that severely retroclined maxillary incisors cause a reduced space in the oral cavity. This reduction causes the tongue to be placed slightly posteriorly in the mouth and also tends to exhibit signs of what has been documented as macroglossia. The posteriorly placed tongue touches the back of the throat and inadvertently keeps on triggering the swallow reflex. A triggered swallow reflex causes the firing of secretion of gastric juices as a consequent reflex. This constant firing causes gastric juices to collect without any food being present and leads to symptoms of chronic acidity. The second aspect of this is that constant secretion of gastric juices leads to a regular release of insulin from the pancreas as a preparatory for food digestion. This happens constantly and causes the pancreas to continuously overwork. This constant over-working leads to early aeging of the pancreas leading to the start of early onset Type II Diabetes. It is suggested that the diabetes will be noticed only after a number of years at around the age of 40 while the acidity phenomenon will be noticed even in young adults at 21 plus years of age. This study is planned to test this hypothesis across 100 initial subjects.
